Subject	What would be a better way to get a steering wheel centered?

Message	Removing and realigning the steering wheel, the steering wheel joint or adjusting the toe evenly on both sides along the rack? I'd like to say the joint, but I read some guy saying the tie rods...Now while it would work, would it cause an adverse affect on the natural position of the rack? I assume this would give the rack less room to turn on one side, even if it's only a few turns of the nuts. I did the oil pan gasket on my car and disconnected the steering joint and even though I marked them it the steering wheel was off. After a billion tries re-aligning it I visually got the wheels, steering wheel and markings all aligned, but vehicle then pulled to the left for some reason when before it was straight as an arrow.
